Wes Anderson is a filmmaker with a unique style, known for his vibrant visuals and quirky characters. Some of his most notable movies include “The Royal Tenenbaums,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” and “The Grand Budapest Hotel.”

Ideation phase
When thinking of Anderson, what first came to mind was his use of symmetry in his movies that is so carefully made. I wanted to extrapolate the feeling of calmness from his movies. Yes, his characters can be chaotic, but the background always has a serene ambience.

When thinking of Anderson, what first came to mind was his use of symmetry in his movies that is so carefully made. I wanted to extrapolate the feeling of calmness from his movies. Yes, his characters can be chaotic, but the background always has a serene ambience.
Creative process
To mirror Anderson’s uniqueness, the layout of the book is symmetric. Frankly, the process of creating a symmetric work was pretty hard. Multiple layouts were done while watching Anderson’s “The Darjeeling Limited”.
“The Grand Budapest Hotel” stands out as the most awarded and famous work of this director. Hence, selecting it for the cover was the primary concept. This allows people to instantly recognize the iconic image upon seeing the book. The hotel image is tightly cropped to form a small and elongated jacket on top of a white book, creating the impression of a book strip. Naturally, the hotel is centered on the cover. Opting for a landscape format for the book aims to resemble a screen, enhancing the immersive experience. The oversized format adds a cinematic drama to the design.
The chapters are divided by the dominating colour of each movie, which fans will understand, reinforcing the immaculate colour palettes done by Anderson.
