Mandate
Marché public de Montréal is innovating by launching a brand and package for growing seeds from their farmers’ crops and artisanal products. Derived directly from farmers’ produce from the markets. All those products will be sold in pop-ups around the markets.
Description
The Société des Marchés publics de Montréal has for mission to facilitate access to fresh produce. Looking over multiple markets around the city like Atwater markets and Jean-Talon markets. They have a close relationships with farmers, and want to maintain that closeness by working on a new venture with them.
Ideation phase
You have to start somewhere, and gardening can be difficult. By creating not only packaging for seeds but also an informative pamphlet, the customer is guided through their gardening experience. What can I do to differentiate from other typical seed packaging? By engaging with newcomers to gardening, a new target audience is called upon. The pamphlet should contain information and packaging for seeds, with the latter being detachable.
Creative process
Multiple shapes of pamphlets were explored for this project. The simple, effective rectangle was chosen for its easy-to-carry and keep design. Simple illustrations are used to facilitate the comprehension of gardening. Colorful packaging was chosen to attract the eye and blend in with the sea of fruits and vegetables in the markets.
Each pamphlet contains information about one fruit or vegetable to guarantee success in planting. The size of the pamphlet is small, with the goal of customers keeping it for a long time. A small envelope containing the seeds is detachable from the packaging.
